How to Get the Most Out of Our Tech Week Event

Whether you’re attending to expand your professional network, meet like-minded people, discover new opportunities, or simply enjoy an evening of meaningful conversation, a little preparation can go a long way.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your experience at the Connect on Your LEVEL™ event that we will be hosting on June 3 from 6 to 9 pm in Manhattan, NY.

1. Focus on Quality, Not Quantity

You don’t need to meet everyone in the room.

Often, one meaningful conversation can be more valuable than collecting twenty business cards. Give yourself permission to slow down, be present, and genuinely get to know the people you meet.

2. Be Curious

The most memorable people aren’t always the ones who talk the most—they’re often the ones who ask thoughtful questions. Instead of thinking about what you’ll say next, focus on learning something interesting about the person in front of you.

A few great questions:

What are you building, learning, or exploring these days?

What’s something unexpected you’ve discovered recently?

3. Put Your Phone Away

We know it’s tempting to check messages, emails, or social media but the real magic happens when you’re fully present. Some of the best opportunities come from spontaneous conversations that never could have happened online.

4. Don’t Lead With Your Job Title

An attendee made a comment last week, “I hope it will not be business-oriented.” I understand where he is coming from – New York can be very fast-paced and transactional, to the point that it seems that some people come to events to conduct business transactions.

What you do is important, but it’s only one part of who you are. Instead of focusing solely on work or business, share your interests, passions, experiences, and what motivates you. Try to connect via sharing stories, rather than your résumé.

5. Be Open to Unexpected Connections

Not every conversation needs to result in a client, investor, co-founder, or date. Sometimes the person who introduces you to your next opportunity is someone you never expected to meet. Stay open-minded – that individual might introduce you to their colleagues, friends or neighbors.

6. Follow Up

The event is only the beginning. If you enjoy meeting someone, don’t wait weeks to reconnect. Send a message, connect on LinkedIn, schedule a coffee, or continue the conversation while it’s still fresh.

If you haven’t yet, RSVP to our event, Connect on Your LEVEL™.
